Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) offers a pre-kindergarten program at no cost to 4-year-olds who meet Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) eligibility criteria. Students must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 30 to be considered for the 2016-17 program. Accepted students attend a full-day program that follows VBCPS school hours and calendar.
Applications for next year will be completed at citywide intake screenings, beginning March 7 at the Meyera Oberndorf Central Library from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The complete list of weekly screenings scheduled for March is available in a flyer posted online here, and dates for intake screenings will be updated throughout the spring.
Parents/guardians should bring the following documents to the eligibility intake screening:
- Two proofs of residence/address (lease agreement and current gas, electric or water bills)
- Child’s certified birth certificate
- Physical examination report
- Current immunization report
- Child’s social security number
- Two current emergency contact phone numbers
- Proof of income: 2015 W-2 forms, SSA, 1099, SSI, or two recent pay check stubs
- Unemployment Income determination letter (if applicable)
- SNAP and/or TNAF documentation and case number (if applicable)
- WIC ID number (if applicable)
- Child Support documentation (if applicable)
Students are not selected on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parents/guardians will be notified of their child’s eligibility status via mail in early July.
